~ Die wahre Freundschaft lebe hoch ~

This is a literal translation that is awkward in English but rhymes in German and accompanies a scene that shows two gentlemen pigs that seem to be pledging a long friendship and happy life, but if one breaks the bond, then he gets confined to the house next door which looks like a jail with barred window and door. The stein is marked "D&C" for Dorfner & Co. of Hirschau, ca. late 1800's. For more info see: Chris Wheeler's "Stein Marks".

Die wahre Freundschaft lebe hoch
auch woll'n wir lustig leben
und wer
in d'Freundschaft macht a Loch
wird g'sperrt in's Haus daneben
The true friendship lives long
also we will live happily
and whoever
makes a hole in the friendship
will be confined in the house nearby.
