~ Ein Fremder sitzt auf einem Faß ~

The Bavarians are known for bragging about their beer and it's totally justified. The stein is porcelain and bears the initials "T.W." on the scene for "Theodor Wieseler" painter and retailer. A cute little rhyme on this relief stein ca. 1900.

gibt's keine Dichter hier?"
"Gnau!" sagt der Münchener,
"'s fehlt uns net, an Dichter und Gesang,
Wer aber was vom Bier versteht,
der trinkt's und singt nit lang!"
Trink mich aus und gieb mich hin
weil gute Freunde um mich sind.
A stranger sits on a barrel
in Munich's Hofbrau Haus,
and delighted by this wondrous brew,
breaks out in a jubilant cheer:
"Why does one only sing of wine,
why not also of beer?"

So he asks: "Might it be possible
that there are no poets here?"
"Hold on!" the Munich native says,
"We do not lack in poets nor in song,
but whoever understands his beer,
drinks it and doesn't sing for long!"
Drink me empty and pass me on
while I am among good friends.
