This mug (stein without lid) is for members of a club entitled "Deutscher Michl' ".
The Deutscher Michl' is a fictional character as depicted on this mug which
is representative of how the German people think of themselves as "easy going"
and as the "every day man". The organization was founded in 1892 as a club
where men could go and enjoy gaming and drinking and this was personalized
for the owner, August Wagner. This is a porcelain mug with a lithophane
(translucent scene in the base) ca. 1890's and might or might not have
had a pewter lid originally since the lid could have cost as much as the body.
