~ Hier liebt man nicht Bank und Streit ~

The Kneip (local tavern) is not the place to fret over money matters or start quarrels, but just to be genial and celebrate the good things in life is the meaning of the verse on this stein marked with the Villeroy & Boch logo, mold number 1526, decor number 602 and dated 1894. Gemütlichkeit is one of those German words for which there is not an exact English equivalent.

Hier liebt man nicht Bank und Streit
sondern nur Gemütlichkeit!
Here one doesn't endear banking and quarrels,
but only congeniality!
