The Nürnberger Trichter became an idiomatic expression in Germania after the 1647 publishing of a book in Nuremberg called
the Poetischer Trichter (Poetic Funnel) by Georg Philipp Harsdörfer which sought to teach the art of poetry and rhyme in
German without using Latin. The funnel in this sense represented funneling knowledge into students sometimes forcibly.
The stein is porcelain with a lithophane (scene viewable in the base when held up to the light) and marked with the
Schierholz & Sohn logo and Musterschutz (patented), ca. 1900.
