~ Sah ein Knab' ein Röslein steh'n ~

This verse is from a poem written by Johann Wolfgang von Göthe in 1771. "Heidenröslein" (little meadow rose) tells of a young man's rejected love, the female represented by a rose. The light relief stein is ca. early 1900's.

Sah ein Knab' ein Röslein steh'n,
Röslein auf der Heiden.
A boy saw a little rose standing,
a little rose on the meadow.
