~ Salus populi suprema lex  ~

This stein is dedicated to Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria who succeeded his nephew, Ludwig II (AKA - Mad King Ludwig) and ruled Bavaria in a sensible manner and according to his motto in Latin (originated by Cicero and used by many for 2000 years) noted on the stein until his death in 1912, made ca. 1900.

Salus populi suprema lex  Let the good of the people be the supreme law.
