~ Sitzt du beim Scat ~

Scat (also spelled Skat) is an early 19th century 3-player trick-taking card game and one of the most popular card games in Germany, and should not be confused with the American game of the same name. This verse seems to indicate that the card game is more important than a wife's desires. The light relief stein is marked only Germany, ca. 1900.

Sitzt du beim Scat,
bleib ruhig dabei,
deine Frau schimpft so gut
um 10 wie um 2.
When you sit at "Scat",
remain calm (don’t leave),
your wife will complain
at 10 (PM) like at 2 (AM)
