~ Um tot zu kriegen die Bazillen ~

The verse seems to go along with the scene of a (biology) student whose fretting about being done in by bacteria, but he can't help making them in his digestive track when he quenches his thirst with beer. The stein is marked with the Mettlach logo, form number 1526 and decor number 7200, ca. 1900.

Um tot zu kriegen die Bazillen,
studiert so mancher Tag und Nacht,
ich suche meinen Durst zu stillen,
ob den auch ein Bazillus macht.
About being killed by bacteria,
(I've) studied so many a day and night,
I seek to still (quench) my thirst,
even though this also makes a bacterium.
