| This salutation is in Latin and literally means "Live", but in context here, it should be read as "To long life!". The glass stein is flashed with copper salts to get the ruby color and then etched and/or cut to clear. The handle attachment starts at the top where it's thicker and is brought around to the lower attachment, a technique used up until the mid to late 1800's when it was discovered that it would be more structurally sound to do the reverse. This stein was made ca. mid 1800's. | |
