~ Wenn man nicht löschen thät ~
There seems to be a play on words in this verse on a blue/gray, salt-glazed, stoneware stein without lid, ca. 1900. In German the word “loeschen” can be used for extinguishing a fire or, in the case of a stein, extinguishing a thirst.
Wenn man nicht löschen thät, ein unglück könnt passieren. |
When one doesn’t extinguish, (then) a misfortune could happen. |
