~ Wer nie mit einer vollen Maass ~

This is a 1/2 L etched Mettlach stein #2002 made in the 1890s. It shows the roof tops of the city of Munich and the Münchener Kindl (Munich Child) symbol of the city. This stein was designed by Otto Hupp with the verse to honor the Bavarians and their capitol city. Note that this has the original fancy pewter lid which was more expensive than the plain pewter lid which was more expensive than the ceramic inlaid lid. However collectors now usually prefer the inlaid lids.

Wer nie mit einer vollen Maass,
auf einem Münch'ner Keller sass,
der weiss nicht was vor andern Völkern,
der liebe Gott den Bayern gab.
He who never sat with a full stein
in a Munich cellar, doesn't know what ,
ahead of all other people,
our dear God gave to the Bavarians.
