This apparent anniversary stein for a bilingual couple is interesting because the
German cognate of "wife" is "Weib" and is the equivalent in dialect and for poetic
uses and possibly used the same way in the long past. Many languages still use the
word "woman" for "wife". However the current word for wife in German is "Frau"
and "Weib" now translates to "woman" in English. The porcelain stein is of the period 1894.
