~ Königl(iche) Bayer(ische) Infanterie Leib-Regiment ~
This is a 1 liter, salt-glazed, stoneware stein made by Marzi & Remy and decorated by Johann Hiedl & Son in Munich (see Chris Wheeler's "Stein Marks"), ca. 1900. The text on this stein was the name of the household-bodyguard regiment of the Bavarian kings from the end of the Napoleonic Wars until the fall of the monarchy and the subsequent disbanding of the Bavarian army. The stein was probably made and decorated for an un-named soldier in this unit at the end of his service time.
