This is one in a series of twelve "Book Steins" made by Villeroy & Boch at Mettlach for various professions. The books are entitled according to those that one in the profession would read in order to become qualified. This one is numbered 2001 K and dated 1901 and is for a Kaufmann (merchant) with associated logos. Note that the thumb lift is a bust of Mercury indicating the importance of speed (in moving merchandise).
