RonRobert,
You have The Bride of Rheinestein stein, probably made by Matthias Girmscheid. You will need to post photos so we know which one you have. The Beer Stein Librays shows two in the Girmscheid catalog. X43 is the 2,0 L version and 759 is the 1,0 L version. I suspect you may have another version. Go to the Reading section and look at those two steins in The Beer Stein Library.

ROBERT CARLISLERon:
Thank you for the direction. I looked in the library and the one I have is almost exact to MG759. It is in full color, although the sky on my stein is a dark green and not a light blue. in all other respects, it is the same stein as that shown. It has a 1L mark on it near the top of the handle and the name Sagen to the side of the handle. Is there any way to date it?

RonRobert,
During WWI, manufacturers had to switch from cobalt blue to green for the war effort. But I don’t know why they didn’t use light blue, it is the sky? Once a mold was made they could make the stein for many years. Mettlach was the only manufacturer to date the year it was made. Signs of age, such as the dark patina on pewter, combined with the word Germany could indicate curca 1900. /the post-WWI years were difficult for Germany. WWII again interupted commerce and post-WWII would be W. Germany on export items until reunification.
