RonHere is an ebay posting for a reproduction regimental, http://www.ebay.com/itm/1899-Antique-Germany-Regimental-Lidded-Stein-Royal-Crown-Signed-Original-item-/142094272645?hash=item21157a8885:g:eZIAAOSwHoFXud~d or item #1420942772645. He is asking $3,250 and thinks it is highly collectible and real. I told him it was a reproduction worth a fraction of his opening bid and gave him references on reproduction articles. He wrote back saying he still thinks it is real even though I told him I had one that I would let go for a steal.
Can some of you help set him straight that I am correct in what I told him. He is a new poster on ebay (only 14 ratings) and needs convincing befoe he makes a fool of himself or someone else.

John PietRon,
I don’t think is our job to police ebay. A note to a seller informing him that he is misrepresenting a stein is fine. What he chooses to do with the information is up to him. Anyone paying $3000 for something just based on the seller’s word deserves to get taken. Besides, ebay postings like these make for good Steintalk discussions.-
RonJohn,
This is not policing, it is education. Nobody deserves to be taken by such misrepresentation. They might not buy at that price, but they might not be too encouraged to start a collection of steins either. If SCI members don’t care what happens to other stein collectors, how can they expect to attract new members?

Ron – I followed up with a note to the seller and links to some references.

His response was that I should contact him again if I want to make an offer. Hopefully buyers will beware.

I hope the seller really likes that stein. He’ll have it the rest of his life at that price.

RonThe Seller is slowly coming around. He recently slashed the price 77% to a mere $750. Of course that is still 10 times more that they sometimes will sell for.
