ColeI’m looking for some info on this Stein which belonged to my father.
It is inscribed to someone with the date 1878.
I would love to know more about it and possible value.

ColeI just wanted to update with a photo of the inscription.
I struggle to see what it says.

This is a good stein with heavy pewter mounts, circa 1900, produced by the firm of August Saeltzer in Eisenach. Saeltzer was primarily a decorating firm, it is known that they purchased many blank bodies from the ceramic manufacturers. Their steins are usually very easy to identify because they used an unusual color palette. The red cursive mark on the base is a decorators mark, but I can’t identify this one. Both body and lid would benefit from a careful cleaning – see the article titled “Caring for your Steins” in the Reading area of this site for some tips. It is unlikely that you will ever be able to transcribe the inscription inside the lid, which seems to have been added by an owner at some point.

ColeThank you, that is really helpful.
I can see it says Nov 30th 1878 but not the rest.

You can find further information about Saeltzer at Stein Marks (https://www.steinmarks.co.uk/page?id=211). You’ll also find an example of the mark of the same decorator that decorated your stein, although the the decorator is unidentified.
