Most of us have arguably “overpaid” for a stein. Your eyes were wide open. I hoped that this discussion would help an unwary buyer avoid being misled. At some point, some owner of the stein sought to deceive with the fake Mettlach mark. This stein comes with a story now.-

JustinThe under bidder is an advanced collector of souvenir steins. There is no way they were duped by the mark. I have memorized numerous ebayers by their bid counts and scrambled monikers.
