    I had informed him as well. I notice it also appears to have a replacement lid and a new one at that.

    i will be honest with you guys: i was the goof ball that paid so much. It is one of the DC etched steins that i have never seen and have no record of. Therefore…..

    Lyn,
    Most of us have arguably “overpaid” for a stein. Your eyes were wide open. I hoped that this discussion would help an unwary buyer avoid being misled. At some point, some owner of the stein sought to deceive with the fake Mettlach mark. This stein comes with a story now.

      I wonder if the second bidder was a souvenir stein collector of if they thought it was a Mettlach.

      The under bidder is an advanced collector of souvenir steins. There is no way they were duped by the mark. I have memorized numerous ebayers by their bid counts and scrambled monikers.
