~ Am Kongo ~

This stein might stir up recollections of Joseph Conrad's "Heart of Darkness" to some readers. It is hard to say what the intent of this stein was, maybe a humorous statement that even the sailors on the Congo River boats had a girl in every port. The stein, probably ca. 1900, has a lithophane on the bottom that seems out of context with the image on the stein.

Am Kongo,
Ein anderes Stätchen,
Ein anderes Mädchen.
On the Congo,
Another village,
Another maiden.
