The sentiment on this stein also can be interpreted as "God controls hops and malt" from the growing to the preparation of beer. This sought after stein was made by the firm of Paul Utzschneider & Cie of Sarreguemines, now in Loraine France on the Southwestern German border and was in partnership with Villeroy & Boch in the mid 19th century. It is marked "2718" and dates to the late 1800's.
