~ Schimpft nit so über Adam mir  ~

The precise meaning of this verse escapes me, but appears to have something to do with Adam and Eve and some kind of sinning under the apple tree. Perhaps the intent of the stein is to show that men have always fallen to the temptations of women. The Jugendstil (youth style = modern art) stein is similar to Franz Ringer designs and is marked with the logo of Merkelbach & Wick and retailer Gebrüder Thannhäuser of Munich, ca. early 1900's.

Schimpft nit so über Adam mir ~
mir kommt mancher dümmer für.
Don’t complain so much about Adam ~
for me some others are much more stupid.
