Even Dr. Martin Luther recognized that water alone wouldn't do the trick on this relief stein marked only "64 A" ca. 1900. This seems to be a takeoff on Luther's quoting from the Bible that "Man can't live by bread alone".
Schon Dr. Luther spricht... Wasser thuts freilich nicht. Hopfen und Malz Gott erhalts.	Even Dr. Luther said... water (alone) surely doesn't do it. Hops and malt God controls.
