The verse and scene are a comical take off on the Biblical (Matthew 5:44) teaching that one should love his enemies. The stein is a late 1800's version of a Schrezheim Faience Walzenkrug (cylidrical stein).
So muß mann seinen Feinden gutes thun -	Thus one must to his enemies do good things.
