~ Was klinget und singet die Straße herauf ~

This verse is the first stanza of an early 19th century, German folksong by Ludwig Uhland. The relief stein is marked with the Hauber & Reuther logo and mold number "453", ca. late 1800's.

Was klinget und singet die Straße herauf
ihr Jungfrauen machet die Fenster auf.
Es ziehet der Bursch ins Weite
sie geben ihm das Geleite.
What ringing and singing down the street
causes the maidens to open their windows.
It attracts the boy in the distance
(and) they give him an escort.
