~ Stich u. Hieb und ein Lieb ~
This is a cute little post WWII relief stein marked "Gerz - W. Germany". The scene shows several German Landsknechts, one who is kissing a maiden at an open window. The Landsknechts, were colourful mercenary soldiers who became an important military force in Europe in the 15th and 16th centuries.
Stich u. Hieb und ein Lieb muß ein Landsknecht haben.	(A) thrust and a cut and a love are necessary for a mercenary to have. Poetic version  from Les Hopper Compilation: Every trooper should have scars and blows and a sweetheart.
