~ Wenn einem trocken die Kehle ward ~
This large PUG (printed under glaze) Mettlach stein #2176 dated (18)96, shows Knights at their usual barroom activities. The verse is from the third verse of an old German drinking song written by Friedrich Adolf Krummacher before 1849. The last part of the verse is not on the stein but shown below. See translation Es sei dies volle Glas geweiht for the last lines of another verse from the song.

Wenn einem trocken die Kehle ward
und er durstig lechzt nach dem Nassen,
so ist es dieser Ritter Art,
daß sie ihn nicht sterben lassen.

Es sind dem Wohle der Menschheit geweiht
Die Ritter von der Gemütlichkeit.
Whenever one's throat was dry
and he thirstily groaned to be moistened,
so it is with the Knight's manner,
that they should not let him die.

They are dedicated to the good of mankind
The knights of geniality.
