by David Harr and John McGregor (photos by David Harr, Frank Loevi and other sources) There is a mis-conception held by many collectors that Matthias Girmscheid was the only factory to produce steins with "twisted vine" handles. So far we have recorded seven other factories that also used them; J.W. Remy, Reinhold Hanke, Marzi-Remy, A. J. Thewalt, Rosskopf u. Gerz, Gilles & Sohn and Freising. I hope this will help identify the proper factory. This is another of those "urban legends" similar to the identitiy of the "TP" mark that refuse to go away. ~~~~~~~
