Stewart, your wish is granted. I purchased the subject stein, and will give you my reasons. ------------ Georg von Frundsberg (1473–1528) was a South German knight who distinguished himself in many military campaigns. He was at the head of the infantry of the Swabian League which drove Ulrich, Duke of Württemberg, from his duchy in 1519. That campaign, Georg, and Schloss Lichtenstein were central to Wilhelm Hauff's 1826 historical romance, "Lichtenstein." I happen to have a special interest in the castle and the novel, which may explain my interest in this stein. ------------ For your information, I am a member of SCI and consider myself a novice, but not a naive, stein collector. I have even on occasion put in my two cents to discussions on this forum. ------------ Did I pay too much? Who is to say? For the same amount I could have taken my wife to two NFL football games. Would I rather spend the next twenty years looking at my stein or the ticket stubs for those games? I think many collectors have forgotten why they started to collect steins in the first place. ------------ There was a similar discussion about a year ago. Scroll down and look at "Wow! What a price!" on 11/11/2007. The picture is gone but can be seen in Stewart's article in the March 2008 Prosit. Beauty, and value, is in the eye of the beholder.
